PCN Pre-Registration Examination for Pharmacists (PEP): A Step-by-Step Guide

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) conducts the Pre-Registration Examination for Pharmacists, commonly called the PEP. This exam is the final hurdle for pharmacy graduates who have completed their one-year internship. Passing it gives you full licensure to practice as a pharmacist in Nigeria.

The PEP is computer-based and multiple-choice. It covers four core areas: pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacology and therapeutics, and pharmacy practice. Questions test both theory and clinical application. You must know drug interactions, dosage calculations, dispensing ethics, and relevant laws like the PCN Act.

Registration for the exam is done online through the PCN portal. You will need your internship completion certificate, a letter of good standing from your training supervisor, and your degree certificate. The exam holds twice a year. Start preparing during your internship. The daily hospital or community practice gives you practical insights. At night, read standard texts: Remington for pharmaceutics, Katzung for pharmacology, and the British National Formulary for therapeutics. Past PCN questions are circulated among candidates. Join a preparatory class if possible. Time management during the exam is crucial. Answer what you know first and return to harder questions.
