CIPM Nigeria Professional Exams: Foundation, Intermediate, and Final Levels

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) is the professional body for human resource practitioners. Its examinations lead to the Associate Membership and ultimately the Chartered designation. The exam structure has three levels: Foundation, Intermediate, and Final.

The Foundation level introduces HR basics: people management, business communication, and organisational behaviour. It is for those new to HR or fresh graduates. The exam is multiple-choice and essay. The Intermediate level dives deeper into recruitment, employee relations, compensation, and HR analytics. The Final level covers strategic HR, labour law, change management, and a professional case study.

Registration is done through the CIPM online portal. You must be a registered student of the institute. Exams hold twice a year, in May and November. You can register for all subjects at a level or a few at a time. The fees are set by the institute.

CIPM provides official study packs for each subject. These are essential. Read them thoroughly. Also reference the Labour Act and the Employee Compensation Act. The case study exam at the final level requires you to apply HR knowledge to a realistic organisational problem. Practice writing case study answers under timed conditions. Join a CIPM tuition centre for guidance. Upon completing all levels, you can apply for Associate Membership. With further experience and contributions, you can become a Chartered member, earning the title MCIPM or FCIPM. HR roles in Nigeria now require CIPM certification. It gives you a competitive edge.
