WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Timetable – School Exams Begin 18 August

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has published the final timetable for the 2026 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The school-based exam will commence on Monday, 18 August 2026 and end on Friday, 10 October 2026. According to the timetable, English Language Paper 1 (Objective) and Paper 2 (Essay) will take place on the opening day. Mathematics is scheduled for Wednesday, 20 August 2026. Practical examinations for science subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, will begin in the second week of September.

WAEC has advised schools to download the timetable from the council’s official website and distribute copies to all candidates. The council also reminded students and supervisors that electronic devices, including smart watches, are strictly prohibited in examination halls. Any candidate caught with such devices will have their entire results cancelled.

This year, WAEC has introduced enhanced security features on question papers and answer booklets to curb malpractice. School principals have been urged to sensitise students on examination ethics and the consequences of cheating.

The registration of candidates by schools closed in March 2026. Late registration with penalties ended in May. Schools that have not completed the upload of continuous assessment scores must do so before 30 July 2026.
