NCEE (National Common Entrance Examination) 2026: Everything You Need to Know

The National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) is the gateway to Nigeria’s 110 Federal Unity Colleges. It is written by pupils in Primary 6 and is administered by the National Examinations Council (NECO).

This exam tests English Language, Mathematics, General Science, and Social Studies. The format is paper-based, though some centres are piloting computer-based tests. Registration usually opens in January and closes in April. The exam itself takes place in May. To register, candidates must obtain an NCEE registration form through their school or a designated NECO office. A recent passport photograph and a birth certificate are required. The fee is affordable, and the process is now partly online.

A high score in the NCEE does not only guarantee admission. It also determines placement into a candidate’s preferred college. So preparation must be taken seriously. Start early with the official NECO syllabus. Practice past questions daily. Time yourself. The pass mark varies yearly but aiming for 70 percent and above puts you in a strong position.

The official NCEE result is released a few weeks after the exam. Successful candidates then proceed to the Federal Unity College selection interview. This interview is a mere formality. Once you pass the exam, your place is almost certain.
